Two New Christmas Events on Offer at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park

Shannon Heritage has launched two new Christmas events at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Co. Clare, to meet the growing demand for pre Christmas entertainment. The events are ‘the Princess & the Dragon Wizard Mini Panto and dinner’ which will take place on the 12th, 19th and 20th December at 5.00 pm, and a special Christmas Evening Event at the Castle which runs on the 12th, 18th and 19th of December at 8.00 pm.

“We are delighted to extend our programme of Christmas entertainment at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Our talented troupe of Shannon Castle Entertainers will be involved in both events, putting on a series of fun Panto with dinner events for all the family, and performing a selection of Christmas carols at our Christmas Evening at the Castle events. This year more than every people want to take their mind off the doom and gloom, and what better way to do this than by revisiting your childhood Panto experience and sharing it with your children,” say John Ruddle, Chief Executive, Shannon Heritage.

A whole host of pantomime characters are involved in The Princess & the Dragon Wizard Mini Panto. It tells the story of Princess Cora whose father the King has died. She is due to inherit the castle but instead is thrown into the castle dungeon by her evil uncle the Dragon Wizard, and his daughter’s Capall and Madra. They want to rule the kingdom and need Cora out of the way. But help is on hand in the guise of Prince Oisin, our superhero with a modern day twist and a host of other pantomime characters. The event promises fun, laughter, scary bits and plenty of “He's behind you! Oh no he isn't! Oh yes he is!” Guests may even be invited to a royal wedding if Prince Oisin can save the day!

Also new this year is a Christmas at Bunratty Castle dining experience on the12th, 18th and 19th of December at 8.00 pm. This event incorporates a mulled claret reception on arrival, followed by a 3 course dinner with wine. To add to the festive atmosphere the Shannon Castle Entertainers, dressed in evening attire, will be on hand to perform a selection of favourite Christmas Carols and popular classic Christmas songs, including “Jingle Bells” and “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”. To book these events online visit www.shannonheritage.com or call Shannon Heritage Reservations at 061-360788.

“In addition to these events we are once again running our annual Santa Claus experience which this year runs daily until 22nd December. This event is proving hugely popular and is already sold out with many people wait listed. This is why we have decided to open it up for people to come and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in our Santa village. They won’t be able to see Santa but they can enjoy the range of other activities. They can visit Santa Claus & his Elves in the school house.  They can also call in to see Mrs. Claus in her Kitchen as she prepares for Santa's trip - making sure his clothes are ironed and he has plenty of food for his journey.  There is an opportunity to listen to the Folk Park story teller as he recalls colourful tales of Christmas long ago,” said Mr. Ruddle.

The Folk Park village street has been decked with holly, and festooned with fairy lights, and the village Christmas tree adorned for the occasion. The young and not so young will be treated to a puppet show and they can join in the fun by chatting to the surprise Christmas characters who wander the village street, they might even bump into Scrooge, the Charles Dickens classic character. Christmas themed shops selling Christmas fare will ensure that visitors can get in a bit of last minute shopping!
